We are a lot like you. We are vibrant, active women who come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of interests. Our common bond is our lineal descent from the Patriots of the American Revolutionary War. If so, please proceed to Step 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If no known relative was in the DAR, your first step toward membership requires establishing your lineage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joining the DAR does not require an interest in genealogy, but it helps to have knowledge of your ancestry. To determine your eligibility, you will need to gather documents for yourself, your parents, grandparents, and possibly&nbsp;<br>great-grandparents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Need help with your research? Fill out a&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.generaldaviedar.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/5GenerationAncestorChart_fillable-2-1.pdf\">Pedigree Chart (PDF)<\/a><\/strong> as completely as you can and bring it with you when you meet with our chapter representative. DAR volunteers are willing to provide guidance and assistance with your first step into the world of genealogy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-ast-global-color-8-background-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Identify Your Patriot Ancestor<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you have followed your lineage, you can begin to identify potential Patriots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Did you know DAR accepts proven lineage to those who served in many different capacities, including patriotic and civil service, not just Patriots on the battlefield or at sea? Was your ancestor a town clerk, selectman, constable, or surveyor of highways? Did he sign an Oath of Allegiance or pay taxes to support the cause?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To assist in your research, the<strong>&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/services.dar.org\/public\/dar_research\/search\/?Tab_ID=1\" target=\"_blank\">NSDAR Ancestor Search<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>database lists ancestors on whom members of the National Society have joined.
